Good luck Tom! Our man at EuroSkills

This morning we’re wishing electrician Tom Lewis a huge ‘good luck’ as he starts competing as part of Team UK in the EuroSkills 2018 competition in Budapest..

Tom, employed by Blues Electrical and a student at Cardiff and Vale College, was in the UK final of the 2017 SkillELECTRIC competition and was selected by WorldSkillsUK for this year’s EuroSkills event.

EuroSkills is held every two years in one of the WorldSkills Europe member states. Nearly 600 highly skilled young professionals from 28 countries will take part in this year’s competition, across 40 skills,

We caught up with Tom before he started the competition, which runs 26-28 September:

“I am very excited to compete in Euroskills Budapest and can’t wait to start! Hopefully all the hard work pays off and everything goes ok. The training’s been hard and you need to be committed to it, but it’s also good as you’re constantly learning new things and bettering yourself,” he said.

“Being part of Team GB is an amazing experience and it’s great meeting fellow competitors as they are in the same position as yourself, and it helps you along the way.”

For his fellow young electricians who are competing in the 2018 SkillELECTRIC final in November at the Birmingham NEC, he also had some support and advice: “Going to the SkillELECTRIC finals is an amazing and nervous experience but as long as you put the hard work in everything will fine.”

Good luck Tom – the whole industry is rooting for you!
